What NOT to Do After a Liquid Spill

• Don't use a hair dryer or heat — heat drives moisture deeper into the board and warps components
• Don't put it in rice — this is a myth; rice does not draw moisture from inside electronics effectively
• Don't shake it vigorously — spreads the liquid to more areas of the circuit board

What to Do Right Now

1. Power it off immediately — if still on, hold the power button and shut it down
2. For MacBooks — close the lid, flip it upside down to let gravity drain any pooling liquid
3. Remove accessories — unplug cables, remove USB devices, pop out any SIM or SD cards
4. Blot the outside — gently blot visible liquid with a dry cloth; don't rub

"But My Phone is Water Resistant" — It Can Still Get Liquid Damage

IP67 and IP68 ratings mean a device can survive brief, shallow submersion in clean water. They do NOT protect against: saltwater, chlorinated water, other liquids (coffee, juice, soda), deep submersion, or older devices where seals have degraded. Even an iPhone 15 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra can suffer liquid damage under the wrong conditions.
